Leadership Verbs
Strong verbs for leadership bios, grouped by the kind of authority they convey.
When to use this bank
Reach for these verbs when the bio's subject is responsible for outcomes that depend on other people. The verb should match the actual scope — using 'led' when 'managed' is more accurate damages credibility on close reading. Read every verb aloud and ask whether it overstates the actual role.
When not to use it
Avoid verbs that imply scale you do not have ('led' a project where you participated; 'built' a team you joined). Avoid verbs from this bank in early-career bios where 'contributed', 'supported', and 'worked on' are more accurate.

Where these words pair well
Pair one 'Built / Created' verb in the first sentence with a 'Grew / Scaled' verb later. Avoid stacking — 'founded and built and scaled' is one verb too many.
Lead with a 'Led / Directed' verb, then add one 'Decided / Allocated' verb to signal that the role carried real authority, not just title.
Anchor the bio with one 'Rebuilt / Turned around' verb and one specific numeric outcome. Without the number, turnaround verbs sound like marketing.
Combine 'Hired / Developed' with concrete cohort detail — 'hired and developed a team of forty across four offices'.
